CASCADA

Convection-permitting Atmospheric Science and Climate modeling Across the Andes

Sponsored by AccelNet-ACCORD U.S. National Science Foundation
Organized by Colorado State University NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR)

About the workshop

The CASCADA Workshop brings together researchers working with kilometer-scale, convection-permitting climate simulations over South America. Participants will learn how the South America Affinity Group (SAAG) simulations were built, get hands-on experience working with the data, explore applications across the Earth system, and discuss what these simulations have taught us so far.

The workshop is sponsored by the NSF AccelNet-ACCORD program and will be held at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.

Topics

01

Km-scale modeling tutorial

An introduction to convection-permitting climate modeling over South America and the SAAG simulations.

02

Analysis tools & hands-on activities

Practical sessions on accessing, processing, and analyzing the simulation output.

03

Applications

Using the simulations to study a wide range of processes across the region.
